During pitch side assistance sports therapists are responsible for the immediate management, examination, assessment and treatment of sports injuries. They then continue to work with the players to manage injury and offer rehabilitation options throughout the rest of the session, getting the players back to optimal health and fitness in the most efficient way possible. Katie has worked for many years with local Rugby teams including Chippenham, Corsham and Trowbridge, along with covering premiership games when required. She continues to cover local matches and enjoys the friendly atmosphere when being part of the Westbury Ladies Annual Tens Tournament, offering massage, taping and injury assistance to all of the players throughout the weekend.
Enhanced Movement have teamed up with Physio Jo to support Dorothy House and the Lewis Moody Foundation each year at the Bath Marathon, providing post-race massage for charity runners.
Katie enjoys being outdoors and what better way to spend the day than working with organisations such as Relish Running and Cadence Events, helping runners to recover after their race. Athletes completing distances from 5K to 50K can benefit from a post-race massage, runners can feel extremely sore afterwards due to damage sustained to the muscles. Having participated in races such as Bovington, Forest of Dean and Silverstone, Katie appreciates how sore the following days after racing can feel. That feeling of trying to sit without that deep ache through the thighs, or ending up walking straight legged just because training maybe didn’t go quite as planned. Using light flushing techniques with gentle stretching can increase range of movement and decrease recovery time.
